Eli Lilly's oral treatment, known until now by its chemical name orforglipron, now has a brand name: Foundayz. It's a medicine that activates the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor and, unlike other treatments in the same family, is taken orally with no specific mealtime conditions.
In the ACHIEVE-3 clinical trial, focused on people with type 2 diabetes, participants achieved reductions of up to 2.2 points in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and lost an average of 9.2% of their body weight (about 8.9 kg) over 52 weeks of treatment.
Eli Lilly has indicated that the medicine will be available at authorized points of sale in Mexico over the coming months. Separately, the Teva México laboratory has announced it will soon add a fixed-dose, extended-release combination treatment for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.
