Mexico's Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) authorized a new pill treatment developed by Eli Lilly, indicated for both obesity and type 2 diabetes.
The authorization was based on two phase 3 clinical trial programs: in the obesity-focused study, participants lost an average of 12.4% of their body weight, while in the type 2 diabetes-focused study, reductions of up to 2.2 points in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) — a key mid-term glycemic control marker — were achieved.
According to reports, this is the first authorization of its kind worldwide with a dual indication (obesity and type 2 diabetes) for this oral treatment, positioning it as an alternative to consider alongside existing injectable treatments in the same family.
